DP World Atlas Service Launches Morocco-UK-Europe Fresh Produce Route
DP World Atlas service set sail from Agadir on 25 November and transformed the transport of fresh produce between Morocco, UK, and Europe. It arrived at London Gateway on Sunday 30 November before landing in Antwerp Gateway on Monday 1 December; providing fresher produce faster at reduced costs while cutting carbon emissions by up to 71% compared to traditional trucking methods.
The Atlas service links key hubs at Agadir and Casablanca in Morocco with two dedicated vessels belonging to DP World at London Gateway and Antwerp Gateway ports and terminals in Europe via two dedicated sailings each week. From Morocco's key growing regions come tomatoes, blueberries, peppers and citrus fruit for transport via this sustainable logistics solution which reduces emissions by 250 kg CO2/ton-kilometer annually.
DP World recently invested in a fleet of 1,250 brand new modern refrigerated containers as well as 1,000 4-foot high cube and 750 20-foot dry containers to meet rising general cargo flows between North Europe, UK and Morocco via sea route. Utilizing Unifeeder vessels allows for smooth passage for delicate produce prone to damage on bumpy roads - Morocco currently exports over 1.1 million metric tonnes annually of fruit and vegetables into Western Europe with volumes expected to increase annually by over 10%.
