Restructuring of U.S. Navy Constellation-Class Program
Fincantieri Marine Group and the U.S. Navy signed an important agreement on November 25, 2025 that will alter the future of Fincantieri Marinette Marine's Constellation-class frigate program currently under construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Wisconsin. As part of a comprehensive fleet review aimed at transitioning towards technological excellence and long-term sustainability, Fincantieri modified its acquisition strategy accordingly with shifting strategic priorities.
Fincantieri Marine Group will continue building two Constellation-class frigates currently underway while discontinuing construction on four additional frigates as per this agreement. This provides financial relief and industrial impacts incurred as a result of Navy contract decisions; additionally, this sets Fincantieri up for new orders for vessels such as amphibious ships, icebreakers and special mission platforms to better support immediate national interests and boost U.S. shipbuilding renaissance.
Pierroberto Folgiero noted that this restructuring strengthens Fincantieri's partnership with the U.S. Navy, further cementing Fincantieri Marine Group's role as a key figure in shaping American maritime defense in the coming decades. Furthermore, this agreement guarantees continuity and workload visibility for personnel working for Fincantieri at Wisconsin System of Yards which forms a vital pillar of U.S. maritime industrial base. Final Freedom-Variant Littoral Combat Ship Delivered
Fincantieri Marinette Marine delivered the future USS Cleveland (LCS 31) to the U.S. Navy on November 26th 2025 - marking an end to construction phases for over two decades of acquisition effort involving Navy personnel, industry partners, and program management teams.
Ancona Shipyard Unveils Expansion Plan
Fincantieri completed a multi-decade concession agreement at Ancona port complex through 2064 on November 19th by signing it with Central Adriatic Sea Port Authority President Vincenzo Garofalo and Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero, providing long-term stability for industrial growth. This concession allows Fincantieri access to over 314,000 square meters of land, waterfront access and existing infrastructure that form part of Ancona port complex allowing it to continue operating successfully at Ancona port complex through 2064 giving long term stability for industrial growth development and industrial growth.
Under this agreement, Fincantieri plans to invest approximately EUR40 million to upgrade and expand their Ancona shipyard, specifically improving capacity to construct large technologically advanced vessels such as high-end cruise ships for which Ancona is internationally recognized. Development plans entail modernizing production areas, updating technological systems, improving logistics systems, and expanding waterfront capabilities. Folgiero described Fincantieri's concession agreement as an essential step toward Ancona shipyard's future and said its investment would enhance Italy's competitiveness in global shipbuilding markets. Port Authority President Garofalo highlighted its wider economic implications, noting Fincantieri's long-term commitment will create jobs and new business opportunities throughout Marche region.
Italian Navy Support Vessel Project Announced
Fincantieri announced on November 28, 2025, that they will provide the Italian Navy with a supply vessel designed for maximum operational versatility, including underwater operations. Through Fincantieri's Underwater Technology Hub in Palermo, Fincantieri will refit this unit into an advanced platform fully integrated within Italy's national capability system.
The vessel's design and available spaces enable rapid reconfiguration to meet multiple operational roles, providing greater flexibility and rapid reconfiguration to suit mission needs. This project forms part of Italy's long-term strategy to increase its presence in an increasingly vital maritime domain through modular, scalable solutions.
